HOW TO + SHOP: Overalls Over Everything!

Whoever thinks overalls or dungarees are for little kids are oh so wrong. I will be prancing around in overalls well in to my 80’s! They’re the best thing to give you that simple, just-thrown-on, don’t-give-a-what look, and they’re as comfy as pyjamas! Some people just aren’t sure how to wear them with confidence though, so here’s a little how-to for you, and I’ve thrown in a few links to my favourite pairs perfect for this summer too! SPRING/SUMMER/AUTUMN/WINTER-MUST-HAVE.

HOW TO:
wear to a festival..
Pair your overalls with your favourite pair of sneakers (Converse go best), a cropped singlet or tee & your best shades or floppy hat.

wear to da club..
Full-length work best here. Wear your overalls rolled up above your ankle with a pair of black sandal stilettos and a sheer black top. Minimal makeup & hair!

wear everyday..
I wear mine with a comfy striped long-sleeve top or any old singlet & my Doc Martens.

SHOP - Colour Of The Day - IN THE NAVY

I’m mostly all about black and white, but now I think I’m having a secret love affair with navy. It’s perfect! It goes with absolutely everything! It even looks good when it’s the only colour you’re wearing! It’s as flattering as black and as fresh as white. I’ve picked my favourite navy products available at the moment. Get some in your wardrobe J

DIY: Distressed Jeans!

We know that labels like One Teaspoon make pretty perfect distressed / ripped jeans, but how many of you know how to DIY? We all have an old pair of jeans that would look SO good if only we could tear them to perfection ourselves! The research has thankfully been done for you and I’m sharing with you  the easiest and best way to tear yourself a new pair of jeans!

WHAT YOU NEED:

Pair of jeans
Ruler
Sandpaper
Pumice stone
Stanley knife
Scissors
Small flat block of wood
Bleach
An old rag

WHAT TO DO:

1.  There’s HEAPS of different techniques to distressing denim, but I think that the safest thing is to stick to sandpapering, pumicing, scraping and cutting.
2.  First thing’s first – decide where you want the frayed areas to be. Use a pencil and ruler and measure where and how wide you want the tears to be. Draw it out and pick a place to start. Put your wood inside the jeans (so you don’t get the back of the leg while you’re doing the front) and get your tools ready.
3.  SANDPAPERING: This wears down the denim. Use your sandpaper in a side-to-side rubbing action until you start to see the denim becoming thinner.
4.  PUMICING: This does pretty much the same thing as the sandpaper. It just helps the process along. Rub the pumice stone the same way you did with the sandpaper. The fabric should start to fray.
5.  STANLEY KNIFE: This will create perfect fraying. Scrape the blade across the fabric, side-to-side (the wood should still be inside your jeans).
6.  CUTTING: Use your scissors to cut a hole in the middle of the distressed area, however wide you like.
7.  BLEACHING (optional): Get your old rag and dampen a small section of it with bleach. Rub the bleach across ONLY the distressed area, in the same direction as you’ve done the other stuff.
8.  Now J you’re pretty much done! All you have to do is not pull at the threads, they will now fray naturally. You can also wash your jeans to fray them a little more.
9.  Try your new awesome jeans on and if you’re not happy with them, do the above steps again.

NOTHING FAUX ABOUT THIS!

SPOTLIGHT: Mr. Nashville & Velvet Villains

Some big things are coming out of a little store in Melbourne. Bronzesnake is home to smaller labels you don’t often come across in big retail stores, including local labels, Mr. Nashville and Velvet Villains.
Both local Melbourne labels are dedicated to bringing both girls and guys good quality, on-trend products at scarily affordable prices! It’s hard to believe how cheap their prices are when you’re still getting the quality and awesome-ness of every other expensive brand!
These guys will only get bigger and better so I’m stocking up whenever they get new things in before everyone else catches on! If you’re not lucky enough to be in Melbourne and visit the store, no stress – they ship nationally as well as to NZ and internationally. Here are a few of my favourite pieces J

SHOP – Product Of The Day – SKORTS?!

So these things are the latest craze and to be honest I've previously been pretty sceptical. In saying that, I've finally come to terms with the fact that they're awesome! I remember wearing a skort in primary school and being teased - probably why I'm a bit wary now - but ain't nobody gonna tease you in these! It's like wearing a cute short skirt without being worried that your underwear will be news to the world next time a gust of wind comes past, and they're angled amazingly to make legs look flawless - perfect!
Here are a few of my favourite places that you can get your own. I have to say, HELLO PARRY are definitely my pick out of these but when they inevitably sell out of their stock, I've got a few other places you can go :).
